William Morris at II Temple Place :: Unit 6 Visits.

See big here.

William Morris is my favourite. So much depth. I spent all day there and did 15+ A4 drawings/notes.

Notes in Lectures :: Unit 5

Last week, I shared with you some of my doodles of colourwork designs and patterns in my Summer 2011 notebook. In this notebook of mine, I also had a lot of doodles during lectures or talks that I went to. I have a nasty habit of drawing what people are wearing next to me (see the roses two pages down) or the room I'm in, or the lecturer. haha. They are mind triggers, and help me remember being there. Also, I'm a big believer in taking notes! I find I remember things better if I write them down. So anything that is relevant to me- key words, favourite phrases, and thoughts while I'm listening to a talk all go down in note-form. (Often accompained by arrows or boxes or other doodles!)Yup- I'm that girl at the front, jotting down notes like a regular Hermione! No shame in that!! :]

Museum Of Childhood. :: Unit 6 Visits.

I increased the contrast on these a little bit so you can see my pencil marks better. There are also more house drawings in my Vocab book.

Photographs at Standen house :: Bluebeard!

The other day, I wrote about my experience at Standen House, and the drawings I made. While I was there I took a lot of photos to use as reference for a project. The whole place is so beautiful, each corner has something interesting about it. Here are some photos of the house, without much editing, so you can see the real colours and feel of it.I'll let the photos speak for themselves...

Drawing at Standen House :: Bluebeard!

Drawingatstanden00Standen House is a National Trust property that is about an hours drive away from my parents' house. The architect who built it was Philip Webb, who was a close friend of William Morris- and the Arts and Crafts movement is shown throughout the house in every nook and cranny. Not to mention the beautiful self-sufficient garden that the lady of the house had.

Here are some of the quick drawings I did whilst I was there and from photos I took. I mainly wanted to focus on the house as a wealthy, mysterious and fantastical place. Full of entrancing patterns and objects- but that could be the scene for a more sinister story. At this stage I was purely gathering visual information.Drawingatstanden04Drawingatstanden07Drawingatstanden02Drawingatstanden03Drawingatstanden05Drawingatstanden06Also- I may have gotten side-tracked by all the Morris wallpaper... sigh...Drawingatstanden01Drawingatstanden08Victorian times are inspiring me the most lately.

Misc events/exhibitions. :: Unit 6.

Textiles In Sussex- a big hall full of experienced weavers and spinners. Some exhibitions, some traders stalls and some very friendly and helpful ladies who taught me several different ways of weaving! Amazing. (more photos in my FACT project sketchbook).

Also- Read my Renegade Craft Fair adventures here.
You may have to scroll down quite a bit to see some of the photos of the actual event. I had a stall there & it was a pretty big deal, that I planned for about 6 months. Because I was a vendor, I didn't have much time to look around- let alone take notes- but there are a lot of photos of my booth and my experience at that link.

Below is a page of notes and also a scan of the little 'goodie bag' or 'make your own' kit I got when I went to a Craftivist meeting. About how to combine crafts and activism. Really sparked my interest. Met the lady who started the London group and we had a good time chatting about issues and how she started it and what it's all about. A really good cause I could get behind. About raising awareness without being aggressive or telling people what to do. I stitched a little banner (in the scan of the kit 'Love is the Answer'). Oct or Nov.

Since Nov 2011, a few girls and myself have been meeting every wednesday night for 'Camberwell Craft Club'. Below are some notes on our 'ethos' and ideas if we ever wanted to make it a bigger deal.
