The Sketchbook Project 2011

If you've never heard of The Sketchbook Project- basically you pay $25 to get a sketchbook sent to you, then you fill it up based on a theme, send it back to Art House Co-op and they go on tour with all the sketchbooks from that year around USA. Then it goes 'home' to The Brooklyn Art Library where it stays and anyone can view it. The coolest thing is that it's all catalogued and I'll even get notifications when someone looks at it! Anyway, the deadline was this week, and seeing as I never get it back again- I wanted to take some good photos of it.

A bit about how I went about it: I've been drawing in it on and off since August 2010, mainly in pen and pencil, doing bit and pieces as I felt inspired. My theme was '...you'd be home by now.' Then, this past week I sat down and filled the rest of it in and added some colour on top of pages which already had drawings, added some photographs, text, paint etc. Without further ado, here it is, in it's entirety:

I am incredibly proud of myself for finishing it, and I found it very rewarding, especially going through it this week and 'finishing it', because of the time restraint I gave myself, I was just doing whatever felt natural and not worrying about it being perfect. It really felt like what I love to do, what I'm used to doing, what I want to do. Hopefully that feeling will spill over and into some of the work that I'm struggling with.

Which pages are your favourites? You can comment/favourite them on Flickr if you like. [:

P.S. Alice Tye is doing it too!
